The most common photos of Germans from the Uprising are those of POWs, as they were often undertaking clean-up work around the city. A large majority of the photographs are of the German POWs who were captured on August 20th after the insurgents seized the PAST (Polish Telephone Joint-stock Company) building, an important point of German defense. German-held positions, such as the BGK (Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego – National Economic Bank) building, from where the Germans shelled the surrounding area, were also documented by photo-reporters. Some other photos show German soldiers in the streets of occupied Warsaw in the years 1939-1944.
