Insurgent photographic documentation contained barricades as well as fire and observation stations. Photographs taken directly during battle are few. Well-documented was the insurgent attack on 20 August on the PAST building, which was an important site of German resistance in Warsaw. However, the majority of photographs are posed reconstructions of earlier events; e.g. the seizure of Holy Cross Church in Krakowskie Przedmieście Street on 23 August. Eugeniusz Haneman’s most famous photograph comes from that place, showing an insurgent in the destroyed Church entrance, who, as the photo is being taken, bends down and dodges a German bullet.
