Album of Landeschützen-Kompanie 52/VI, German soldiers

Landesschützen-Kompanie 52/VI was formed on 26 August 1939 in Wesel, Nordrhein-Westphalen. On 16 September 1939 it was transferred to occupied Poland. Stationed first in Żyrardów, it guarded Polish POW transit camp, and later in Błonie, where it performed patrol duties. From November 1939 until the end of January 1940 the company was quartered in weapons store in Palmiry, and from 30 January until 18 March 1940 – in Physical Education Academy in Bielany, Warsaw. There it was transformed into I. Bataillon vom Infanterie-Regiment 659 der 393. Infanterie-Division. From there it was sent to Komorowo near Ostrów Mazowiecka, near war-time border with Soviet Union. Tne unit was sent back to Germany on 4 August 1940. Unlike most personal albums, this one is definitely an official chronicle, including pictures of commanding officers, subsequent unit quarters and scenes showing everyday life of soldiers in barracks. These pictures are further supplemented by winter scenes in Bielany and a few street scenes of occupied Warsaw.

  • Souvenir album of Landeschützen-Kompanie 52/VI (later 3rd Company of 659th Infantry Regiment) includes 78 black and white photographs taken in 1939-1940. It was edited in summer 1940 by Lt. Jacobs, then stationed in Warka. The copy purchased by Warsaw Uprising Museum belonged to Corp. Puetzschel, as shown in the named dedication in title page. The album has been very carefully edited and probably printed in several copies. The printed history of the company from 1939-1940 has been pasted in subsequent pages.
